FAQ
Since a lot of you are coming from abroad, we thought we'd help you out with a few recommendations for tourism, travel, and the like.
Travel
Flights
-
We recommend flying using ElAl, the national airline. In our experience, they are the most likely to keep their flights going in any situation.
-
When landing at Ben Gurion airport, make sure to keep the blue ticket given to you at passport control, you'll need it to exit the gate later on. Keep it even out of the airport as hotels will give you a tax discount at check in if you show it to them.
Within Israel
Bus? Train? Rent a car? The world is your (kosher) oyster! When traveling within the bustling and beautiful city of Tel Aviv we recommend using the following services:
-
Bus Nearby: better than Google Maps, but still not that good.
-
Gett: the taxi app, wanna talk to the driver about his wife and children? Wanna drive around with the windows open and the A/C blasting? That's the right service for you!
-
Google Maps: good for walking, bad for bussing.
-
Electric Scooters: Lime, Wind, Bird, and other four letter words if you must. Know that you'll need to enter your drivers license.
Accommodation
Budget friendly: Abraham Hostel has private rooms that are very popular - great hostel in a great location.
Your own place: Airbnb is very popular in Israel and mostly affordable when it's not Eurovision.
Once you're here
Activities
If you want to make the most out of your time in Tel Aviv, here are a few of our favorite suggestions:
-
Take a food tour in the shuk with the amazing Ruthie - https://www.tasteisrael.co/
-
Check out the artists market on Nachalat Binyamin on Tuesdays and Fridays.
-
For nice areas to walk around, try Neve Tzedek, Florentin/Shuk Levinsky, Old Yafo, the beach promenade, or Park HaYarkon & the port.
Of course around the rest of the country there are thousands of years of history, nature, and culture. If you need any help planning day trips, let us know.

Eyal Shani is a famous Israeli chef who has a few restaurants. They vary from budget/casual to expensive/special occasion, so take your pick - Port Said, Miznon, North Abraxas, and more.
Anything else?
Keep in mind that during Shabbat, public transport, most shops, and some restaurants close from around 3pm on Friday until after dark on Saturday. In Tel Aviv, most restaurants and some convenience stores are open during Shabbat. It mostly affects transport or other cities.
